Institute of Rural Development and Education (IRDE)

IRDE is a Non Govermental Organization (NGO), founded by Dr. V. V. Ghanekar (M.Com.Ph.D., Economics) under the guidence of late Dr. Dhanajayrao Gadgil, Dr. M. R. Dhekane and Dr. P. V. Sikhatme in the year 1980, registered vide no. F2141 (Pune) on 6th July 1982 under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.

The Institute is also affiliated to Extra Mural Studies, Bahishal Shikshan Mandal of Savitribai Phule Pune Vidyapeeth, Pune for the last 15 years for distance informal education, to schools / college students, adults, senior citizens, farmers, educated, unemployeeds and women for their physical, mental, education, economic, psychological, social and iternal development.

On behalf of Bahisal Shikshan Mandal the Institute is required to arrange every year lecture series of 3 days each in the name of Yeshwantrao Chavan, Dr. Babasaheb Jaykar and Sant Gadgebaba. The Institute is also required to organize two Shibirs of one day each in the name of Dr. Babasaheb Jaykar for school / college students and Sant Gadgebaba for senior citizens. The minimum number of participants required for each lecture series of 3 days and Shibir of one day is 50.

Annexure I, covers all the lectures delivered by empaneled speaker of Pune Vidyapeeth's Bahishal Shikshan Mandal and the topics so far. This activity is undertaken by the Institute every year with the financial support of Bahishal Shikshan Mandal, Savitribai Phule Pune Vidyapeeth, Pune

Areas of Operation: Its area of operation is mainly throughout India, which can be extended globally to help farmers of other parts of the world.

IRDE Vision

To make India "" To improve the life of rural masses of India / Globe by ensuring thems facilities for improvement of health, education, economic and social conditions by using local resources, indigenous knowledge and scientific technologies generating employment opportunities for them in rural areas so as to stop their migration to urban areas and in fact ensure reverse migration. Further, to develop capabilities of rural youth to innovate to solve problems of rural India and scientists to find and solve the problems of Indian agriculture instead of copying from others.

IRDE Mission

To concentrate on improving agriculture production, land productivity, storage and marketing capabilities for agricultural produce, rural industrialization to remove the human drudgery and carrying research in Agriculture, optimum, utilization of available water by adoption newer water management practices, encouraging organic farming and to supplement their income from Agriculture, to introduce activities allied to Agriculture thereby shifting the traditional Agriculture to business model and make efforts to stop farmer's suicides in Maharashtra and other parts of the country.

IRDE AIMS

  • 1) To undertake research activities in Agriculture and Allied Sciences.
  • 2) To undertake survey activities for State, Central Govt., Private Bodies, Corporates, Banks etc; related to Agriculture and Rural Population / Development.
  • 3) To make maximum use of Information Technology.
  • 4) To start / run training centres, Educational Institutes viz. School, College, University etc. and distance education learning centres.
  • 5) To find out alternative sources of energy.
  • 6) To develop technology for efficient utilisation of rainfall, surface and underground water and water conservation practices.
  • 7) To propose changes and modifications in the policies and programmes of State and Central Govt., local governing bodies, so far as Rural Development and Education is concerned.
  • 8) To suggest programmes and policies for timely and sufficient financial support to agriculture and allied activities by financial institutions.
  • 9) To make farming of small and marginal farmers viable by introducing co-op farming, establishing farmer producer companies.
  • 10) To form self help groups and link them to banks.
  • 11) To study and recommend to appropriate authority the facility for harvesting, grading, storage and marketing of agri. produce for better pricing.
  • 12) To study and develop simple and easy technique for processing of perishable agriculture produce so as to have additional shelf life and value.
  • 13) To represent the Institute of Rural Development and Education in the various Central, State Govt., Semi Govt., Public and Private, economic and social committees constituted at International, National, State and local levels.
  • 14) To assist and take assistance of various research, educational, training, financial, social, economic institutions, agri. colleges and Universities to fulfill the objectives of the Institute of Rural Development and Education.
  • 15) To encourage Agriculture Tourism.
  • 16) To improve physical, mental, educational, economic, psychological, social and eternal development of women, children and youths.
  • 17) To assist in all respect physically and mentally challenged persons, old and destitute people.
  • 18) To start centres for moral and cultural upliftment of rural society.
  • 19) To establish and run library, study centres and students hostels.
  • 20) To accept donations, financial aid, interest free deposits from Indian and Foreign residents and also Non Resident Indians and to give donations to needy persons and Social Organisations, Educational Institutes etc.
  • 21) To publish literature on various subjects including rural / agriculture, policies, procedures etc., survey reports, evaluation reports etc.
  • 22) To run the programmes of Bahishal Shikshan Mandal, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.
  • 23) To purchase / take land of farmers, Trust, NOG's, Govts. etc. on lease for carrying out Research/ education in Agriculture and Animal Sciences and to take Result Demonstration Plots.
  • 24) To carry out surveys, project preparation, implementation, planning and evaluation of schemes and projects of the State and / or Central Govt., Private bodies.
  • 25) To undertake consulting work related to Agriculture.
  • 26) The Beneficiaries of the Institute (IRDE) are a Section of the public and not specific individuals.
